Welcome to Memory Lane Singing Club
Finchley Central, North London

Memory Lane Singing Club is under the musical direction of Emma Kershaw, a versatile actress and concert artist, who has featured with many well-known orchestras including the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Emma joined Memory Lane in 2017.

The Club also welcomed a new pianist, Joseph Morley, who has had a varied career in all forms of commercial and popular music.

We are delighted to have Emma and Joseph with us and look forward to an exciting musical future with them.

I have been the Musical Director at Memory Lane since April 2017.

In that time I have seen first hand how much it means for people to come and sing together.

Many of the members have health issues or are dealing with bereavement or other challenges and they get a lot of support from the group. I have had a lot of people tell me how much the group means to them and how important it is to have those couple of hours each week to focus on something positive.

I believe music is an incredible therapy and I get a lot out of sharing music with others. Building the relationship between me and the singers is something I treasure. Singing together provides a connection and gives people belief that they are making a valuable contribution as well as enjoying the music itself.

The concerts we give in care homes in Barnet are greatly appreciated. I often see a transformation in the audience before and after we sing. The songs are generally well known, so to see peoples' faces light up and sing along is very special to witness. I firmly believe Memory Lane is providing an invaluable contribution to the community.

20th Anniversary Celebrations

Dame Esther Rantzen was our guest of honour at a very special event to celebrate 20 years of singing in the community.
Two Barnet Councillors also attended.

We entertained over 50 members of Barnet Contact the Elderly with a tea party and a selection of popular songs at St Mary's Hall,
Hendon Lane, Finchley Central.

Most of the food for the tea party was generously donated by local stores - Greggs, Waitrose, Tesco, Marks & Spencer and Co-op.

It was a truly wonderful afternoon.

I was so pleased with your performance on Friday. It was a joy to watch you all really engaging with the music and the audience and the wonderful response you received. All the hard work paid off and I want you to know how proud I was of the results. I had many compliments after the show.

I think you all looked great and each face brought a lovely sparkle to the overall look. Singing from memory is not an easy task and I commend you all for putting in the effort. The audience really appreciates it too!

Showtime

An audience of over 100 guests enjoyed our annual 'Showtime' at St Mary's Hall, Hendon Lane, Finchley Central N3 1TR.

There were visitors from several local care homes as well as friends and family.

It was great fun and the audience sang along enthusiastically.

Our members benefit from the pleasure of a shared activity, enhanced confidence and the sheer joy of singing and performing. The exhilaration lasts long after the session has ended.

Memory Lane Singing Club welcomes people at all levels of ability - even those who think they cannot sing. There is no audition and you do not have to read music. You are invited to come along any Friday and give it a try.

YOUR FIRST TASTER SESSION IS FREE
