Benefitting the Community
“Music therapy is the act of making music collaboratively, and it can transform lives. Music can help ease anxiety and disorientation, unlock memories, reduce isolation and help people living with dementia regain their sense of identity.”
Quote from a Nordoff Robbins leaflet
Singing is ideal for those looking to develop new skills and make friends or just want to enjoy singing. It’s a wonderful way for people living alone to have a sense of belonging to the community.
Members and audiences benefit from the well-known therapeutic effects of singing. It is now recommended by doctors to help asthma sufferers and for all kinds of lung and breathing disorders. It reduces stress and improves health and well-being. As our name suggests it improves memory and evokes memories. And we sing from memory, too!
Our members benefit from the pleasure of a shared activity, enhanced confidence and the sheer joy of singing and performing. The exhilaration lasts long after the last note has been played!
Our members say:
“It is an honour and pleasure to be a member of Memory Lane Singing Club, where a group of people have joined together in the joy of singing. Our efforts are rewarded by the positive reaction of the audiences when we entertain in care homes.” Bernard
“I believe my singing and confidence have greatly improved over the 15 years I have been with Memory Lane. I am visually impaired and appreciate the support my fellow singers give me.” Michele
“Singing with Memory Lane for the past 11 years has seen me through some difficult times. The support from other members has helped improve my well-being and given me a positive outlook. Bringing pleasure to care home residents makes me feel good, too.” Susan
Our audiences say:
“The range of music was wonderful – the singers had such happy faces. No-one could doubt they love what they are doing. Most of all, our members were made to feel less isolated and even more part of the community. Everyone was singing on the coach home.” Out and About Club
The residents thoroughly enjoyed Memory Lane and they are certainly looking forward to more. The singers were lovely and it was fantastic to have you all join us.” Livability Care Home
